If you’re like a good handful of the population, then dieting isn’t something that sticks easily. As summer makes its annual round, finding a way to successfully commit to a diet can be hard and seem tedious. Don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place! I’ve created a list of the top 6 ways to lose those inches and get the summer body you’ve been working for.
Tip #1: Add More Vegetables, Fruit And Protein To Your Diet
Including at least one of these three items in every one of your meals will increase your body’s intake of fiber, antioxidants, and nutrients. In order to lose weight, your body has to burn more calories than it’s taking in.
Protein boosts the metabolism which in turn, helps your body burn more calories. As for fruits and vegetables, the CDC states that “the water and fiber in fruits and vegetables will add volume to your dishes, so you can eat the same amount of food with fewer calories.”
Tip #2: Drink Plenty Of Water
Water is a very important component to successful, healthy weight loss. Drinking plenty of water during your diet is good for several reasons – a few of them being that water is a natural appetite suppressant, it’s a GREAT body cleanser, and your body can’t burn fat without it.
The American Council on Exercise advises that you drink about 2-3 liters of water a day while you’re on your diet to stay to ensure that your body stays hydrated.
Tip #3: Be Mindful Of What You Eat
Eating mindfully means that you’re being super aware of what you’re eating. It can be hard to break bad eating habits, but if you pay attention to what you eat, you’ll train your body to eat what you should instead of what you want.
Tip #4: Add Physical Activity To Your Daily Routine
Physical activity plus dieting will not only work out the muscles and bones in your body but they’ll also discipline you mentally and physically to stay on track. Something as simple as push-ups, walking more, stretching daily, or even doing some lawn or house-work can mean all the difference.
The Mayo Clinic suggests that you get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day.
Tip #5: Cut Back On The Booze
There’s nothing like a nice margarita to end an excruciatingly long day of hard work. Unfortunately, alcohol is LOADED with calories, and frequent consumption can really start to add up. Try saving the adult beverages for the weekend. It’s an easy way to bump off a few hundred calories from your daily intake.
Tip #6: Stay Positive
One of the biggest problems with staying committed to a diet is that we forget that it’s a process. The worst thing you could do is start being super hard on yourself. This could lead to unhealthy dieting or relapsing on your guilty pleasure foods.
Take a deep breath, and remember that drastic change won’t happen overnight. Enjoy the ride and love the skin you’re in! You’ll so much better and you’ll start to see a change in no time; not just physically, but spiritually and emotionally as well.
